Book Trailer:

My first take on General Fiction with the lucky chance of reviewing the book! This book was a fun take on reminiscing a once upon a time dream and reuniting friendships.

Thank you to Rockstar Book Tours, who gave me the opportunity to review this book. In no way of how I received this book, does it influence my opinion. For future tours and book, recommendations visit their site here:

When I read the blurb, I expected something playful and reminiscing and thankfully Shoars delivered. The whole idea of bringing school friends back into one’s life again always intrigues me. I’ve seen and heard it countless times with adults who spoke of dreams and wishes they once had, but life just beat them to it. This is one of those books, but with a persistent main character who won’t stop at anything to reunite this band.

The writing itself could’ve had a bit more work since there was so much explanation of stuff that wasn’t needed. I noticed a few mistakes, but nothing major. It was still enjoyable to read that was easy to follow.

Our main character Eric owns his own Marketing company or something along those lines so when he’s struck with the motivation to reunite his school friends, he has all the knowledge, plans, details, and how to sell it to them in a way where they can’t say no. Eric’s a bubbly character who already seems to like life with his wonderful wife and two daughters. He’s the character I sympathised with when things went south, but I liked that it did! It showed how realistic this story can be and not everything will go well since everything was before then. I admit, at one point I doubted Eric because he was so optimistic and invested so much time into the band.

There were so many characters I could speak about, but my favourite had to be Todd. The way Eric described him in the beginning as being his best friend, readers assume their reunion would be engaged and chatty. Yet when Todd was the complete opposite of who he was when he was a kid, it didn’t surprise me. It shows how people can change because of life experiences. It only made me target the story more since Eric faced his first actual obstacle. Todd is a realist, and he really contrasted with Eric’s personality.

The band chapters were playful and a breeze. The character development and closeness of each band member were great to read. This was a happy summer read, even though I’m in the middle of winter! I highly recommend this as a beach park, public transport read! You’ll fly right through it.

About Eric:

Eric Shoars is a serial storyteller who considers the English language his playground and who never met a pun he didn’t like. Eric is a modern-day Walter Mitty with a serious twist. His writing style is best described as “fly on the wall” putting the reader in the shoes of the lead character experiencing what he does as he does. His heart’s desire is to have a personal narrator for his daily life. It works in comic books so why not in the real world?

No Way Back Today is Shoars’ first foray into fiction. His non-fiction works include Women Under Glass: The Secret Nature of Glass Ceilings and The Steps to Overcome Them and Evil Does Not Have The Last Word.
